• Know that stop signs are not usually found or used at every intersection. They are mainly used to control the movement of cars at dangerous intersections: • Find them mainly at a four corner crossing when the traffic is usually not heavy enough to require a traffic light. • See them in residential areas, near areas where children play, or near a school where children have to cross the street. • Know that there are specific right of way rules that pertain to stop signs found at intersections. At these areas, find multiple stop signs with specific rules of right of way. • The driver who stops first usually continues first. • When two cars stop at the same time, with stop signs at a single intersection, the general rule is that the car on the right has the right of way. • When there are three stop signs at three intersections, the person on the right has the right of way. • A stop sign means just that.
