How Do You Play Fun Learning Games With Online English Students?
This article deals specifically with ESL or EFL students. Many times online teachers find it difficult to get and maintain the interest of students. Here are few tried and true ideas to help keep students engaged in online learning. Ask the student questions about his or her interests. Find out what type of music, school subjects, fashion, electronics, and hobbies interest the student. Consider writing these down. You can even write these on the electronic whiteboard and then have the student prioritize these favorites. Play a simple game that involves speaking and spelling. Ask the student a question such as “What five things would you take with you on a vacation to the moon?” This will get the student speaking, and likely smiling. Play the camping game. Start the game with “I’m going camping. I am taking an (Insert a word that begins with the letter A).” Then the student will continue, recalling what you listed, and then adding a word that begins with the letter B. The games goes on
