Many local governments have their own website, and its rare to find any state or federal agency that doesn’t have their own site in addition to a page on the state website. According to Privacy Rights Clearinghouse the list of official public records that are often obtained online include property assessments, motor vehicle registrations, voter registration lists, professional and business licenses and court files. In some cases, the record you are searching for won’t be immediately available on the website. However, on that site you can probably complete a Freedom of Information request so the documents will be emailed to you at a later date if they are cleared for public viewing.
