Plaster craft has been a delightful past time or hobby for young and old alike for many years. It is air dried , so you don’t need a kiln. Pieces are very durable and will last a lifetime if finished correctly. This should help you get started. First you must decide what item you want to duplicate. Do not try to copy someone else’s work. Carve, create or sculpt a figurine of your own. No matter how simple your first piece is -it’s your’s and you will improve as you continue. Purchase a container of latex mold builder. It is available at all craft stores. Add a drop or two of glue to the piece you are going to make a duplicate of and mount it in the center of a large piece of cardboard. Begin by brushing thin even coats of the latex onto the figurine. Brush the latex out to form about a 2″ edge all around the piece. Let each coat dry completely before applying the next coat. It should take 8-10 coats to make a good reusable mold. You will see the color of the rubber change as it dries.
