How Do You Make An Edible Topiary?
An edible topiary is a piece of art often used as a table centerpiece or a gift item. Edible topiaries can be made in any shape and design, using candy and fruit. Styrofoam balls, cones and wreaths that serve as the topiary base are available at most craft stores. Sketch the shape of your topiary before building to make it easier to find the supplies needed. Common edible topiary shapes are small spheres (balls) or cone shapes that are crafted to look like a tree. Buy a Styrofoam base—if it is small and lightweight, attach the base to something heavy and stable, to prevent the completed topiary from tipping over. Set the topiary on a tray or on top of a flowerpot or vase to keep it stationary. Select the food for the topiary. Fruits such as melons, pineapple, grapes and strawberries are firm and can be added to the topiary without sliding off. Hard cheeses, such as cheddar and swiss, are also appropriate. Chocolate truffles and wrapped lollipops can be used for a sweet-tooth topiary.
