How Do You Make An Advent Calendar?
Children will love to help make this Advent calendar – and enjoy the candy cane treat each pocket holds! Step 1 Fold a dark green bath towel in half, making it about 27 inches wide and 25 inches tall. Step 2 Glue the edges of the towel together using a hot glue gun, stopping about 1.5 inches below the fold, which will be the top. This will form a pocket for the dowel. Step 3 Glue decorative braid around the edges of the front of the towel to form a frame. To get a square shape, place the top braid about 2 inches from the fold; the side and bottom braid should go to the edge of the towel. While an advent calendar is an old holiday tradition, you don’t need elaborate supplies or a lot of money to count down the days until Christmas. All you need is an inexpensive cookie sheet and some craft supplies. • Spray the back of the cookie sheet with a Krylon (or similar brand) Fixative. It gives the paint something to “stick to” because of that slick surface. • Cover the sheet with 1 to 2 sheets of paper. • Paint the sides of the cookie sheet with acrylic paint and dry brush a bit here and there across the top of the patterned paper. • Allow to dry throughly. • Draw a grid across the sheet. Leave about 3 inches on the top to add a nice big DECEMBER. Each square of these calendars is about 1 1/2″ x 2″ or so. You need 4 rows and each row needs 7 squares. • Add the DECEMBER title to the top of calendar. You can use letter stickers, rub ons, freehand write them, print it out on the computer, etc. • Apply a thin coat of sealer, or PPA or Modge Podge to seal the paint. • Allow to dry
