How Do You Make A Two-Part Plaster Mold?
A two-part plaster mold uses plaster to create two halves of a mold. You can use any object in this project to create a mold. Press the object you want molded half-way down into a block of sculpting clay. Make a horizontal row of LEGOs above the block of sculpting clay. Place two vertical rows of LEGOs on each side of the sculpting clay block. Place a horizontal row of LEGOs beneath the block of sculpting clay. This is a mold box that will contain the plaster you’re about to pour. Brush the top of your object with a thin coat of petroleum jelly. This will keep the plaster from sticking to it. Mix your plaster according to the manufacturer’s directions. Start at the corner of the sculpting clay and slowly pour the plaster into your molding box. Make sure there are no air bubbles as you’re pouring. Leave the plaster to dry overnight. It should be completely dry to the touch when it’s done. Remove your object from the plaster.
