How Do You Learn The Greek Alphabet?
The Greek alphabet has been used since the ninth century and is the oldest continuously used alphabet in the world. Learning this alphabet is a skill that can help you if you want to learn to speak Greek. Write out the Greek capital letters and then write the phonetic pronunciation next to them. Note the similarities between the Greek letters and the English alphabet. If you learn visually, read each letter with the pronunciation over and over again to yourself. Write each letter on an index card and then write the pronunciation on the reverse side. If you are more of an auditory learner, record yourself reciting the alphabet into a tape recorder. Then listen to it over and over again. Ask someone to quiz you as you begin to memorize the letters. Ask your “study partner” to show you a letter and then you give the pronunciation or vice versa. Try using a mnemonic, a memory aid wherein you can use each letter of the Greek alphabet to signify a phrase to help you to remember the letters.
