How Do You Increase Windows XP Virtual Memory Paging File?
Windows XP uses a special file called a paging file as a virtual memory storage area. Virtual memory is used when the computer has exhausted its supply of hardware memory (RAM), but still needs additional memory to perform operations. By increasing the size of the paging file, you make more virtual memory available to the computer. Start your computer, log in to Windows and click on the “Start” button. Click on “Run,” type “sysdm.cpl,” and then press the “Enter” key. Open the “Advanced” tab, click on “Settings,” open the “Advanced” tab again and then click on the “Change” button located under the “Virtual Memory” section. Click on the drive that contains your paging file, click “Custom size” and then type in your increased initial and maximum size for the file. Click on the “OK” button and restart your computer to apply the settings changes.
