How Do You Handle Flying Objects While Riding A Motorcycle?
Motorcyclists are vulnerable to a variety of airborne hazards – insects, cigarette butts and other trash tossed from car windows, or flying debris from dump trucks. Be prepared to deal with these annoyances and prevent them from causing dangerous situations. Avoid getting hit in the eye, face or mouth by flying debris by wearing face protection – either a helmet with face protector, eye goggles or sunglasses. Don’t drive behind dump trucks with sand, pebbles or other objects flying off of them. Slow down to increase distance between you and the truck, or pass it when you can safely. Remember not to let any flying objects interfere with your control of the motorcycle. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the handlebars. As soon as it’s safe, pull over and repair any damage. Note that flying debris can crack or smear your face protection, making it difficult to see.
