Verify that you will be away from your family for at least 30 days. Once you are, then you begin to receive Family Separation Allowance on a monthly basis. Visit your family. Temporary visits don’t necessarily disqualify you from Family Separation Allowance. Confirm that you will be away for 30 days after a temporary visit. For any period of 30 days or more of separation, you receive FSA. Spend the money to pay for packages and long distance calls.
