How Do You Disable Registry Editing Tools As Per Group Policy?
If you don’t want users on your computer to have access to edit the computer’s Registry, you can block access to the REGEDIT application through the computer’s Group Policy. Modifying this Group Policy requires an administrator-level account on the computer in question, but it only takes a few moments to enact the policy, which can help protect your computer against damage. Log in to your computer with an administrator-level account. Click “Start,” go to “Run” and then type “GPEDIT.MSC” into the Run window and hit “Enter.” If you are running Windows Vista 7, just click “Start,” type “GPEDIT.MSC,” and then hit the “Enter” key. Go to “User Configuration,” “Administrative Templates” and then into “System.” Double-click on the “Prevent access to registry editing tools” entry, and then check the “Disabled” option. Click “OK,” close the Group Policy Editor and restart your computer. Users will no longer be able to edit the Registry.
