How do the Michigan laws affect research?
Michigan researchers seeking federal support for embryonic stem cell research must use the limited, and generally compromised, cell lines approved by President Bush. Researchers in states with less restrictive laws can create new stem cell lines in their own laboratories. Michigan researchers can, however, use private funding to study embryonic cell lines created outside the state.
