How do the electronic cash drawers work?
Cash drawers can either plug into the parallel port, the serial port, a USB port or directly into a receipt printer. They are typically simple devices that contain a solenoid that opens when a signal is sent to the drawer. The most common and least expensive type are the ones that plug directly into the back of the receipt printer. If you do not plan to use a tape style receipt printer, then you should get either a serial, parallel or USB drawer that plugs directly into the back of your computer.
