How do Sublijet Inks work?
Sublijet digital transfer inks for ink jet printers use specially formulated heat-sensitive inks that are patented by Sawgrass Technologies. Sublijet inks are used in a two step process. The inks are first transferred in a non-sublimated (or inactive) state to standard paper using a compatible Epson Stylus printer. Then, using a heat transfer press, the printed image is heat transferred (sublimated) to the final substrate. Unlike traditional dye sub transfers, Sublijet inks produce a “first generation” print. A “first generation” print means the inks are only sublimated once during the process. Traditional dye sub transfers must perform two sublimations in order to transfer the image to the final substrate. The first sublimation occurs when the image is transferred to special heat transfer paper using a dye sub printer. The printed image is then re-sublimated to penetrate the final substrate. These prints are termed “second generation” prints. “First generation” prints are advantageous
