How do MFTs get licensed?
Currently, 46 states have a license for marriage and family therapists with approximately 30,000 licensed therapists in them. Illinois is one of them. All of the remaining states have licensing efforts in the works, and, hopefully, their licensing bills will pass soon. Licensing requirements include an exam, particular coursework, and particular clinical training. States can have slightly different licensing requirements, so get specific information from your current state or the state in which you wish to reside.
