How do metric data collection and storage work?
Metrics are collected by the agents and shipped back to the server for permanent storage. More specifically: • The set of all metrics that can be monitored for any resource is specified in the product-plugin XML file associated with the resource. The Monitoring Defaults Configuration page (Dashboard->Administration->Monitoring Defaults Configuration) lists these metrics, indicating which ones have been enabled for data collection by default and the respective collection intervals. These monitoring defaults are part of the configuration information sent to the product plugin when an instance of the product is imported into the JON inventory. The page supports the modification of the default settings, but the updates apply only to newly imported instances of the product. • The list of metrics currently enabled for a resource can be viewed by navigating to the resource’s Current Health page and clicking on the CONFIGURE tab.
