If it is your hard drive that is running out of space, the only way to clean it up is to delete stuff out. You can uninstall old programs, delete old files, and use a program like CCleaner or CleanUp to remove temp files. If Windows is persistently prompting you to run chkdsk, then you might be looking at a bad hard drive. I would back up all of your data, try to clean some stuff out and keep an eye out for slow performance (if it isn’t already displaying this). If this appears to be the case, you may want to replace the hard drive. Hard drives aren’t expensive, but you’ll need a Windows installation disc to get the computer functional again. If the computer is really old you may want to consider upgrading. You can get a nice Compaq desktop at Best Buy for less than $400.

Windows has a lovely interface. Fading icons, translucency, drop down shadows, animated windows are just a few of the fancy features. However, these features are completely unnecessary to your computer performance. All these features are poured into your RAM. So, if you would like to avoid insufficient memory error and speed up your PC, adjust your visual options. Here is how: 1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2.Click System. 3.Click Advanced System Settings 4.Under Performance, Click Settings. 5.Under Visuals Effects, you may choose from a list of options such as Adjust for best performance or custom. If you choose Adjust for best performance all the features will be unchecked.

You mention low memory and also mention low disk space… you need to uninstall programs or buy a new harddrive that is larger… go get a thumb drive and transfer all your songs or file that you need to that for now then erase them off your computer. You will not be able to really burn CDs either until you free space… if you turn off system recovery you get space back as well (search ‘disable system recovery’) Below is a way to adjust the virtual memory it may be set way to high for your space… play with the size and even though it seems that lowering it is bad, it is not in a low harddrive space issue.

You need at least 15% free on all partition for the de-fragmentation. Also you will get page files if you do not have enough free space on the hard drive for virtual memory. There is a bit more to maintaining a hard drive. Maintaining your computer Left click on C drive> properties/run windows disc cleaner> then download Ccleaner from here: http://www.filehippo.com/ Install and run the cleaner top left, then run the registry cleaner below it on the left. Left click on C drive> properties>Tools>disc scanner or in the case of Vista it’s called something else, but it’s the top tab you click on> Prompt the scanner to scan upon next reboot and REBOOT COMPUTER) #(Prepare to wait up to an hour)# Then run windows Disc Cleaner again, Ccleaner and registry again then you must do a DEFRAGMENTAION of C drive Which is START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>TOOLS>DEFRAGMENTATI… Additional options: You can also run adware 2008:

Uninstall any programs that you don’t use any more and burn any old files that you want to keep, but don’t need on your computer to CD/DVD.
