How do I setup my internet connection to two computers in my house?
Unfortunately, you can not use the co-axial cable in the basement without paying your cable company for a second connection. But you can get around the issue with a router. For a $40 you can get a wireless router at Walmart or any electronic store. The router would attach to your upstairs cable modem and then have a network port that you can attach the upstairs computer to. You then have the option of running a second cable from the router to the lower computer. However unless you want to drill holes in your floor, that is not practical. So you would need to run the lower computer wirelessly. The wireless router will sent out a radio signal that is good for about 150 feet (50 meters). You would need to purchase a Wireless USB Adapter to plug into the downstairs computer. (Again about $40). This will allow the downstairs computer to attach by the radio wave to the upstairs router and modem. You will have Internet available at both computer.
