How do I properly dispose of used software?
Most used software is destroyed, unless there is a reason to keep a copy of it for licensing reasons (e.g., an upgrade that requires the user to hold a copy of the original version). The software is usually destroyed by cutting the floppy disks or CD-ROMs the software is stored on. If you have upgraded the software, you usually cannot sell the old product, since the license has transferred to the update. If you do not need the disks, destroy them and recycle any manuals. Software that you no longer use and that can be transferred to another user can be sold or donated to a charity, such as Computers for Schools.
