There should be a shut off valve near the appliance. Turn that off. If it is the only appliance, turn off the valve at the tank as well. Make sure the pilot light is extinguished if it has one. Also make sure there are no other sources of ignition nearby before you open any connections. When you disconnect the line from the dryer, there should be either a female flare fitting or pipe thread on the end of the appliance connector. Place a cap or plug of the same thread type in the end of this line. Leak check it with a 50/50 solution of dish-soap and water.
