How do automation tools improve accuracy?
Repetitive tasks are dull. There’s no getting around it. It’s hard to do a task that requires close attention, but which is too simple to keep your mind engaged. After doing the same thing over and over, we begin to lose track of what part of the process we have or haven’t done for a particular repetition. At that stage, a programmer has to slow down even further and double check the work, just to be sure each step is getting done. In spite of slowing down, typing errors, duplication errors and ommissions begin to increase. The fact that we are intelligent, creative people begins to work against us as our minds shut down from boredom. The cost of this is not just longer work times and more errors. Because there are more errors, a programmer then has to spend more time validating and fixing the original work. A well designed and well tested software tool, however, does everything correctly every time. This cuts down on the time needed to both do the work and verify the work.
