How did the CAILLOU series get started?
. Since 1987, Caillou story books (published by Les ditions Chouette) have sold over 2 million copies worldwide and have been translated into English, Spanish and other languages. CINAR obtained a license to produce an animated series and the first short episodes were broadcast in 1997 in Canada. The resounding success of the animated series led to a partnership between CINAR and PBS to produce the half-hour CAILLOU series for public television. Subsequently, additional books based on the television series were published.
