How did Judas betray Christ?
If you look up the word “betray” you’ll see that all Judas had to do to betray Jesus was to ‘betray’ (give away) Jesus’ identity and whereabouts to anyone (technically)…he just chose to betray that info to Christ’s enemies who were seeking to kill Him. The ultimate “kiss of death”. Big betrayal…for which he actually paid more than he was paid, in the end. It’s amazing what some people will choose to do for money and (though he didn’t know it at the time) eternal ‘fame’. Go figure.
Some people don’t believe it was a betrayal at all, but rather Jesus trusted Judas to hand him over to the Temple Guard. It had been Judas’ role to pay the dues at the temple and due to this relationship Jesus supposedly entrusted him to bring the guards to him. The word translated as ‘betrayal’ in the Bible is only used in this context when talking about Judas, the rest of the time it’s translated as ‘hand over’. According to Old Testament prophecy the way to overcome evil was to not fight it but to let it do it’s worst to God’s chosen one. Jesus being aware of this prophecy may have wanted to have been caught (he rode the donkey into Jerusalem on the previous sunday to fulfill another OT prophecy saying he was the new king) He knew his actions throughout Holy Week would ultimately lead to his death but he did little to escape his fate. for 30 pieces of silver, judas lead the Roman soilders to where Christ and his disciples where praying, and he kissed Christ on the cheek when greeting him, he had told the soilders that the one he kissed would be the Christ, they immediately took Christ and the beginning of the end began for him.
