How common are molar pregnancies?
The figures for the UK in 2004 show that there were 1350 molar pregnancies registered in England and Wales and that there were 650,000 live births. This would give a figure of around 1 molar pregnancy for every 500 babies born. This means that for each obstetric unit molar pregnancies are quite rare perhaps 1 or 2 cases per year, but for the treatment centres they are quite common with 950 patients registered at CXH and 100 treated.
