Your situation soes not seem to resemble a salvage title at all. To obtain a salvage title, the car would have had to been totaled at some point and the insurance company or a state agency gave it a salvaged history. Basically, the insurance company declared it a total loss and paid money out for it based on the value before damages and then sold the car to someone/company/you, etc. but now the title will say “salvaged” because it was a total loss at one point and then was fixed. This is all part of the lemon laws. This is not your situation. You can’t just get a salvaged title to own a car. I would suggest you try and get in contact with the person or, if the vehicle is registered in your state, have the DMV run the v.i.n. and they will be able to tell the the exact disposition of the tile (wheather still bank owned, who owns the car, liens, etc.) You can also look into trying to get a Bonded Title. Edit: The process for bonded titles vary from state to state, but basically what it is
