How can I make my own clothing with the thin material I have sitting around in a trunk?
Making clothing isn’t difficult if you work with sewing patterns. They have done all the hard stuff, such as measuring, drafting, the dividing by fractions and other math, so all you do is cut and sew. Making clothing is almost impossible if you try to do it without good patterns, unless you have taken pattern cutting lessons, or you have a natural gift of seeing three dimensions and translating it to two dimensions and back the other way. You can make unique items with patterns through the choice of fabrics, colours, trim and any embellishments. You don’t have to make an item from the exact same fabric as the pattern shows, as long it’s a similar weight, drape and has similar handling properties. Scrap fabric can be sewn together into patchworks; similar to quilts but without the batting layer or backing or quilting. Patchworked fabric makes nice skirts, bags, appliqués for store bought clothes, etc. In my business I can never make enough patchwork skirts to satisfy my customers. They
