How can I make my Microsoft Word XP word count my document without including the footnotes?

If you select only that text that you want counted, then up to Tools, Word Count, it will give you the count of only the portion of the document you have highlighted. That is if you are using pre-2007. With 2007 you have a running count of words input on the status bar.
