How can foreign language instruction support the elementary school curriculum?
Foreign language programs offer reinforcement, review, and enhancement of the elementary school curriculum by their functional use of essential communication skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through an interdisciplinary approach, such skills as spelling, math, and science also can be reviewed and reinforced in foreign language instruction. Gibbs students have numerous opportunities throughout the school year to perform at school and in the community using their foreign languages. Little Rock’s World Fest and Pulaski County’s Magnet Schools Fair at McCain Mall are two events that occur each school year.
