How are the samples processed?
For the Compliance Audit, AKC staff members collect, identify, seal and mail the samples to AKC. For the DNA Profile Program, the owner or owner’s agent collects the sample and mails it to the AKC, where the samples are entered into the database, bar-coded for reference, and batched for shipment to the laboratory (MMI Genomics). After processing by MMI Genomics, the resulting genotypes are transmitted to AKC for inclusion in the AKC DNA Database.
The owner collects the samples, fills out the DNA Service Sample Submission Form with the information on the dog, and sends both with the fee of $50.00 to the ADBA office. The sample information is entered into the ADBA database and the samples submitted to MMI Genomics, Inc, the testing laboratory. Once analyzed, the information is returned to the ADBA office where the analysis is recorded and the certificate is generated, and then mailed back to the owner of the dog. The processing time for this service should be approximately 6 weeks. What will be the advantages for DNA analysis for my dog? Each profile is unique to each individual dog, and is a way to positively identify a dog. DNA analysis enhances the value of the pedigree as a breeding tool, by providing a scientific way to verify parentage. It can safeguard a breeder’s reputation by offering certified parentage on all litters. Is it a requirement to have all dogs DNA profiled before breeding?
