How are students graded?
In the primary program (kindergarten through grade three), teachers use this system to evaluate student progress: • O–Outstanding • S-Satisfactory • U-Unsatisfactory/Needs improvement In the Intermediate Program (fourth and fifth grade), Middle, and High School, teachers use this system: • A: 93-100 percent (outstanding performance) • B: 86-92 percent (above-average) • C: 79-85 percent (average) • D: 70-78 percent (below-average) • U: Below 70 percent (unsatisfactory) • I: Incomplete For more details download a PDF versions of our Elementary, Middle and High progression, promotion, and grading hand books.
Participants receive grades for a series of labs, short quizzes, an independent study project/presentation and a final comprehensive written exam. Students tend to do well in the program because of the hands-on nature of the exercises. There is also a multiple choice exam as part of the scuba certification program.
Our grading system is as follows: A = 4.0; B = 3.0; C = 2.0; and so on. Some test grades are numeric. At the beginning of each course, the syllabus will establish the criteria by which the course grade is computed. Please keep in mind that each class grade is a combination of your individual test scores and individual or team assignments, presentations, and special projects. A grade of 2.0 is required to graduate.
