How are officers selected for career field designation?
A. Officers are Career Field Designated (CFDed) at the four- and seven-year mark of their career; FA 57 only selects during the seven-year board. Officer first preference is a major factor. Preference, needs of the Army, and an officer’s skills and experience are the predominant factors for CFD boards. To make a well informed decision download DA Pam 600-3 and review the CFD website.
