How are money management and budgeting used to real world situations?
Each week the students are given the opportunity to plan meals. Usually done earlier in the week students discuss and decide on a meal plan for two meals, one dinner and one breakfast. They then work on navigating the community through public transportation services. At the grocery store they use skills to estimate the cost of each item and show it through fake money and keep a running total of the items being purchased. At checkout they compare the actually price to the real total to see whether they have estimated enough and stayed within the budget.
