How are exams administered?

The academic integrity of online courses is an important concern. Exams may be administered in several different ways: embedded in courses, uploaded by email, or proctored. For courses requiring one proctored exam, the online student is responsible for making arrangements with a testing service convenient to them, or must come to UTD on the exam date set by the course instructor. Specific information is available on the Proctored Exam Information page and also in each course syllabus.
There are several types of testing; some may be online, such as Drop Quizes. In this case students are informed of the examination at the last moment and have to answer immediately, while the tutor is with them in the class. Some tests can be done at home, such as take-home exams. These do not need proctoring and students can take their time and submit their answers similarly to any assignment. Finally the Proctored examinations are administered in the SVU Testing Centers. A representative proctors the exam session which is timed. Usually these are the official examinations. The SVU has established Testing Centers wherever there are students enrolled, so you may find a close location to attend your exam wherever you are, inside or outside of Syria.
When you are ready to take your first exam, you will select a proctor who will monitor you as you take your exam. The proctor should be someone on the pastoral staff of your church and must be approved by the Distance Learning Department. A proctor cannot be a relative! The exam is mailed to your proctor, you take the exam in your proctor’s presence, and your proctor returns the exam to us. An exam request form is provided in your course materials so that you can mail, email or call in your request. Please give us at least two weeks notice before you wish to take the exam.
