How are essays judged?
Winning essayists are determined by official judges selected by USA Patriot’s Pen executive director and all judges’ decisions are final. Scores are not discussed or released. Essays are judged on the following: theme content, title, and organization; age-appropriate writing style, correct English, including grammar usage, punctuation, word usage, sentence structure, active voice verb usage, slang avoidance, vocabulary, spelling, clarity and conciseness, penmanship and neatness, proofreading, and following directions.
