How are awards made?
Awards are based on cumulative GPA with the highest cumulative GPAs awarded first. A cumulative GPA scale is determined prior to awards being made. Students must be in good academic standing with his/her college/university at the end of the previous fall semester because the current spring semester grades will not have been posted. Renewal students compete with the entire field of qualified applicants each academic year. No one is grandfathered into the program. All awards are dependent upon the VA Tobacco Scholarships Office receiving funds from the VA Tobacco Commission.
Commercial assessment awards will be decided by a Steering Group comprising the Technology Transfer Officers of the Partner Institutions. Technology validation awards will be decided by an independent Review Panel chaired by Prof Trevor Jones. All applicants for a technology validation award will be expected to make a short presentation to the Review Panel.
