DVD Toolbox When I try to encode an AVI file into MPEG, I get an error stating that the CODEC is missing or cannot be found. What is wrong?
Two possible scenarios: 1. You are missing the CODEC (compressor/decompressor) that the AVI file is encoded with. You can test this by attempting to playback the file through Media Player. If Media Player gives you a similar message, then you will need to obtain the CODEC that was used to compress the file before you can convert it to MPEG. 2. If the clip does play in Media Player, then the clip is most likely an AVI Type 2 file. MPEG Maker-2 currently only supports AVI Type 1 files. To avoid this, choose an UNCOMPRESSED format or a standard AVI-1 CODEC when capturing your original AVI.
