Does everyone loose their mucus plug?
Everyone has to lose the plug before the baby can come out! It’s literally like the plug in your bathtub, with it in, the water stays in the tub, and when it comes out, then out goes the water. Of course, being pregnant it’s sort of more like having a giant water balloon in the tub, and you take the plug out, and then the balloon needs to pop before the water goes down the drain 🙂 After the plug comes out, you can have anywhere between an hour and a week. My mom’s plug came out on Tuesday, and then her waters broke on the Friday!
At some point, yes, everyone loses their mucous plug. Not every woman loses it before labor begins, though. Some women don’t pass the mucous plug until they’ve been in labor for hours. The mucous plug doesn’t really come out like many women expect it to. It’s not like a cork. Sometimes, it thins slowly and you pass it gradually, over the course of several weeks. It would appear like most other cervical mucous, sometimes tinged with a little pink or brown. Some women notice a lot of mucous at once, and others don’t notice any at all. If you do notice a lot of mucous, it could be days, or even weeks, or it could be hours. There’s no way to know exactly. If it’s your first pregnancy, you will likely go past your due date. Most first pregnancies do, and that’s okay. Babies come when they’re ready. Due dates are just estimates. Try to be patient with your baby. You’ll be holding her soon.
No not everyone looses it before the baby comes. Some loose it moments before the baby comes out or even with the baby. I started losing little bits of mine weeks before he came. And some people never notice it at all or it comes out all at once. So if you do end up losing it then there really is no time limit for the baby to come out after. The only time to worry about it is if you lose it before 35 or 36 weeks but you are well beyond that. Don’t worry and just relax, trust me you need to relax and not rush it.
