Cod liver oil is a good source of Vitamin D, Vitamin A and long-chain omega-3 essential fatty acids (DHA and EPA). It is believed that these three nutrients are the major nutritional factors in cod liver oil that give it so many health promoting benefits. Vitamin D deficiency is at epidemic levels (especially in the spring after lack of sunlight production of vitamin D during the winter).
