Does Bob really hate students?
No, I don’t hate my students. I admire dedicated students who are working hard to get a quality education. And I love to teach them what I can. I think the topics we cover in this class are interesting. I enjoy sharing my understanding of the issues with students and I enjoy hearing what students think about those issues. The issues we discuss and research are in the news everyday. I’m glad we get the opportunity to spend a few hours each week examining the impact of computing on our society; instead of being too busy, studying some other less relevant subject, to know what is going on in the world. Some people hate their jobs, not me. I don’t hate the students I have to scold for being irresponsible either. I am quite capable of being as firm as I need to be to try and help the misguided learn how to be responsible and earn a decent grade, and I am certainly hard nosed about class policies, due dates, and participation, but it isn’t personal.
