Do volunteers make good fundraisers?
Your volunteers are ideally placed to undertake fundraising activities, especially face to face work with the general public. They are typically passionate about the work of the organisation and can give first hand experience to potential donors they are speaking to about the difference your organisation makes. What can we ask volunteers to do? Volunteers can be asked to do all kinds of activities. However, be careful in asking a volunteer to do the same work as a paid employee. Offer volunteers a range of activities so that they can pick ones that best suit their skills and interest. Also look at ways to help your volunteers through training and support. Training is available locally for volunteers through Courses for Communities and includes accredited courses for volunteer managers. How2Fundraise gives lots of ideas and resources for volunteer fundraisers. The Institute of Fundraising has also produced guidance on using volunteers as fundraisers. Where can we find volunteers?
