Russians play several sports as well, most notably hockey and soccer. Russians have been fairly successful in hockey in particular, and during the height of the Cold War had several almost “unbeatable” teams, until the 1980 Winter Olympics when Herb Brooks and his “Miracle on Ice” defeated the Soviet team to go on and win gold in one of the most memorable American sports memories.
