Do Basenji dogs make good companions?
I have two Basenjis and volunteer with Basenji rescue & I think they are marvelous dogs. But not for everyone. The best advice is to do TONS of research AND spend time around the breed before you commit to a dog. I will give you info & you can find plenty on the Web, but the Basenji is a dog you don’t fully understand until you spend time with one :). Dog Lover gave you good info & I’m just going to expound on it! Affectionate- they can be EXTREMELY loving, cuddly “velcro-dogs”….but not in the way people are used to. They don’t wag their tails, slobber and fawn all over you….much like cats, you can’t “force” affection onto them. They take time to warm up to strangers….that is where they are aloof. But they are suckers for soft furniture and warmth- so when you’re on the sofa or napping in bed, you’re bound to have a Basenji cuddle-ball next to you.
