Do all schools have to offer extended services?

0

The Government Vision is that all schools will offer access to extended services. The Government’s target is that by 2010 all schools will provide access to 8am – 6pm year round childcare. 50% of all primary schools and 33% of all secondary schools should achieve their target by 2008. In addition all children should be able to access a core offer of extended services through schools by 2010. However the DfES does not expect all primary schools to offer extended services on their own sites. They may work with other schools in the area and in partnership with other agencies, including the private and voluntary sector and primary care trusts to ensure families have access to services. The extended schools prospectus published in June 2005 says the Government’s expectations for secondary schools are different and indicated that they should be open all year round from 8am – 6pm and offer a range of activities for young people.
