Could there have been another way on D day, than wading into a flailing of machine gun bullets?
Part of war strategy is to demoralize the enemy. If you’re a Nazi soldier, seeing the largest navy landing in world history knocking on your doorstep would be demoralizing to you. It showed the Germans that the Allies were not going to let their reign of terror survive. To show this huge invasion on an area that Hitler and the Nazis weren’t expecting is a type of ploy also. WWII veterans who were at D-Day still say that no movie has accurately showed the high amount of ships, people, and equipment that were there, including Saving Private Ryan. The atomic bombs are similar. To this day, people feel sorry for the Japanese in the bombings, yet the Japanese killed hell of a lot more in places like China with the rape of Nanking. They killed a lot more people than our bombs, yet since places like Nanking aren’t very visual, you don’t get an idea. Seeing a huge mushroom cloud is much different. So this whole “being macho” thing sounds technically silly, but sometimes you have to fight fire
