Chessmasters installation program hangs without displaying anything (or only displaying a small white rectangle in the middle of my screen). Whats going on?
Most users who have experienced this problem have fixed it by either updating the drivers for their CD drive or by buying a newer CD drive, as some older CD drives (8x or slower) do not support the copy protection on the Chessmaster CD-ROMs. However, some users have experienced this problem with newer CD drives and it is not known what causes this problem on these machines. One user was able to fix the problem by doing the following. Go to “Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager Tab”. Open the “CDROM” item, select your CD-ROM drive from the list, and press the “Properties” button. Then, if you see any item that says something about “DMA”, de-select that item and press “OK”. This will probably require rebooting your machine. After your machine reboots, try installing Chessmaster 8000 again.
