Can you still die from Kidney failure if receiving dialysis?
Hi Kelly, I hope your dad went to dialysis even though he was feeling poorly and confused. Confusion, loss of appetite and malaise can be signs that toxins and electrolytes have built up in his body. The only way to remove them is with dialysis, since the kidneys can no longer remove them. If he missed his treatment and is still confused get him to the ER. It sounds like you might be new to dialysis. Call your Dad’s facility and ask to met with a nurse and the dietitian to review your dad’s situation. They should also be able to give you some good written materials on kidney failure, treatment options and his new diet. Kidney patients and their families have a lot to learn, so write down questions and ask for a second meeting if you need one. Kidney failure does require some lifestyle changes.
