Can weight training stunt growth?

0

Doctors don’t know how tall you’re going to grow, but weight training can be cause reduction in growth if you over-do it to the extent that you injure yourself. Injuries to the growth plates can stunt growth, and lifting extensive weight can cause those injuries. That being said, its unlikely weight lifting has caused any reduction in growth. Growth can occur in spurts, and its possible that you’ll grown more (many men don’t stop growing until age 20-21).

No, weight lifting isn’t going to stunt your growth. Your genetics determine it. Your doctor could be wrong, he can’t know for certain how tall you are going to get. You still have plenty of time to grow.

My doctor told me that weight lifting is fine at any age. He said that you shouldn’t work out excessively and the only thing that you probably shouldn’t do is squat. It basically squishes your spine and there are said to be growth plates in the spine.
