Can the Regional Checklist be used by a developer where it is not required by the local planning authority?
Where the local authority has not yet adopted the Checklist, the Checklist can be used as the basis for a sustainability appraisal or audit to be provided with the planning application. The Checklist has been developed as a tool for decision makers – the local planning authority, the land owner, the developer team or the potential purchaser of a development. Therefore it is intended that the Developer should be able to use it as a guide and quality assurance tool in their design and planning process. It may also be useful in demonstrating the quality of the proposed development to other interested parties.
