Can I upgrade my Pentium processor with MMX technology PC to a Pentium III processor-based PC?
Both the Pentium processor and the Pentium processor with MMX technology use a Socket 7 bus architecture to connect with the motherboard. The Pentium III processor is based on the new Dual Independent Bus (D.I.B.) architecture to connect to the motherboard. Therefore, the Pentium III processor cannot be used as an upgrade to either the Pentium processor or the Pentium processor with MMX technology.
